Orange Lights Signal ‘Batter Up’

SAM_1377.JPG

This September, the white marble of the Capitol façade once again will be lit up in orange to signal “Hunger Action Month” in Pennsylvania.

Beginning next week and running through the end of the month (Sept. 14-30), the Corbett administration will switch out the spotlights that shine outside the Lieutenant Governor’s Office balcony to orange to remind Pennsylvanians to join the fight against hunger.

Residents also can join their legislators in that fight on Sept. 23 at Metro Bank Park in Harrisburg for the second annual Capitol All-Stars Softball Game. Proceeds benefit Hunger-Free Pennsylvania and Feeding Pennsylvania.

Last year, more than 50 legislators from both sides of the aisle joined together for a little friendly competition that raised $62,945 for anti-hunger programs statewide. More than 70 have signed up this year. Check out a recap video from the 2013 game here.

Visit www.capitolallstars.com for more information about the game and potential sponsorships, or to check out the raffle and auction items.

To help raise awareness about Pennsylvania’s 1.6 million food-insecure residents, the House passed a resolution in 2013 and the Senate in 2014 declaring September “Hunger Action Month” in the state.

We hope that when you see the orange glow this month, you will reach out to your local anti-hunger programs for opportunities to get involved --- and that you join us on Sept. 23 for the 2014 Capitol All-Stars Game!
