Hunger doesn’t take a vacation

Hunger Doesn't Vacation.jpg

Even in this modern, fast-paced society, things tend to move a little more slowly in the summer months. What doesn’t change are the challenges our most vulnerable residents face each and every day to put food on the table.

Summer months are among the most challenging for Pennsylvania’s local food banks, pantries and soup kitchens. In fact, many see a spike in the number of families seeking food assistance during the summer.

School meal programs end, donations slow and the pool of regularly available volunteers shrinks --- adding more pressure on charitable food distribution facilities and on the rising ranks of residents who struggle daily to provide healthy meals for themselves and their families.

Join the effort to end hunger … not just in the summer, but year round. You can make a donation to Hunger-Free Pennsylvania at http://www.hungerfreepa.org/. Just click on the “Make a Donation” button at the top of the page.

Or make a difference in your own community by supporting anti-hunger programs locally. Your time and talents are always welcome. Volunteering is great way to beat the summer heat, especially if you draw cooler duty!

Thanks to all of you for all you do, now and always.
